Futuristic, spotless, and surprisingly cozy, the ultimate budget-chic experience.
Capsule hotels got fancy. We’re not talking 1980s salaryman drunk tanks anymore. These are the ones I actually fight to book again, clean enough to eat off the floor, quiet enough to sleep through a typhoon, cheap enough to make you laugh.
TOKYO (my current top 5)
Nine Hours Akasaka
Women-only and mixed versions, black-and-white minimalist heaven, 7-minute shower + sleep + brush routine is their whole brand. Rain shower pods are stupidly good.
Price 2026: 4100-5800 ¥ (weekend higher), book exactly 30 days ahead at 10:00 JST or cry.
The Millennials Shibuya
Giant “smart pods” you raise the bed to make a standing desk, projector on the ceiling, free craft beer happy hour 17:30-18:30 every day (yes really).
Price: 6200-8500 ¥, still cheaper than any Shibuya business hotel.
Book & Bed Shinjuku
Sleep inside a bookshelf, literally. Cozy standard pods or “bunk” ones behind the books. 24h manga cafe vibe but you actually sleep well.
Price: 5200-6800 ¥, perfect if you arrive on a red-eye.
First Cabin Ichigaya (cabin class, not capsule)
Looks like airplane first-class pods, huge screen, proper mattress, women-only floor is always full of solo girls in pajamas.
Price: 7200-9500 ¥, includes lounge with free coffee and fancy toast.

Anshin Oyado Premier Tokyo Ginza
Onsen + sauna + unlimited free drinks (draft beer, whisky highballs, coffee, ice cream) included in the price. Pods are massive, pillow menu, massage chairs everywhere.
Price: 7800-11 000 ¥, still the best value luxury I’ve ever seen.
OSAKA (because Osaka does everything louder)
Capsule Inn Osaka (men-only classic reborn)
Renovated 2024, now has rooftop onsen looking at Tsutenkaku tower, free all-you-can-eat curry rice breakfast. Still the original 1970s vibe but spotless.
Price: 3800-5200 ¥, cheapest proper capsule in Japan.
Nine Hours Namba
Same chain as Tokyo but the location is perfect, 2 min from Dotonbori yet silent inside. Women-only floor always smells like essential oils.
Price: 4500-6200 ¥.
Glansit Akusera
Women-only, pastel pink everything, free skincare (Shiseido stuff), pajamas come in three colors, instagram heaven that actually sleeps great.
Price: 5500-7500 ¥.
KYOTO (quiet and traditional-ish)
Nine Hours Kyoto
Across the street from the bus terminal, perfect for last trains. Super minimalist white pods, free yukata, smells like hinoki wood.
Price: 4200-6500 ¥.
The Prime Pod Kyoto
Tiny but genius design, each pod has a real window (rare!), proper mattress, and the common area has matcha latte machine 24h. Two stops from Kyoto station.
Price: 4800-6800 ¥.
Pro tips nobody writes in 2026
Weekdays are 1000-2500 ¥ cheaper than Friday/Saturday everywhere
Women-only floors book out first, set calendar reminder 30-60 days ahead
Bring flip-flops, most give disposable slippers but they’re tiny
Earplugs still recommended, some guys snore like trains
All these places have free phone chargers in every pod now, Japan 2026 is wild
Total damage for one night average: 4500-7000 ¥ (30-48 USD) with onsen, beer, breakfast, or projector included depending on the place. You’ll never want a normal hotel again. Which city are you hitting first? I’m currently obsessed with that free beer hour in Shibuya, dangerous life choice.
